It is difficult to see the stars through all the haze and detritus we experience each day. As more and more American citizens are put behind bars for nothing more than standing up for what they believe, we are left with more prison stripes than the stars in the sky. Instead of lifting each other up, American citizens are constantly berated with insults, unless you feel inclined to sit on your hands and agree with bigotry and hate.
Joseph Beuys was an obvious influence on this piece. Once I saw the stripe material, I could not see past the lack of warmth it would provide, unlike the heavy felt, that was a barrier between Beuys and the Coyote. A level of protection. This plastic material may mask my face, but there is a lack of protection within this veil.
